Tim Fowler

British Mixed-Media Artist

Tim Fowler is a British mixed-media artist based in Leicester, England, whose work spans portraiture, cityscapes and vibrant botanical compositions. Graduating from Sheffield Hallam University with a degree in Contemporary Fine Art in 2007, Fowler found his creative voice through the influence of neo-expressionist icon Jean-Michel Basquiat — whose infectious sense of freedom and bold approach to paint became a guiding inspiration throughout his career.

Working across acrylic, enamel, gloss, spray paint, ink, oil sticks and marker pens, Fowler builds large-scale semi-abstract works piece by piece, exploring the power of texture, tone and vivid colour. His signature palette of bright, saturated hues draws on the migratory plants that accompany his West African ancestry — via the Caribbean to the UK — lending his canvases a richly layered cultural depth. Dynamic textural juxtapositions and bold mark-making give each painting its own raw, expressive energy.

Over more than a decade, Tim Fowler has exhibited across the UK, US, Ibiza and Germany, completing eight solo exhibitions in London and Leicester. His collectors include BT, singer-songwriter Mahalia and the New Walk Museum in Leicester. Among his most celebrated projects is Memento Mori — 100 Skulls, in which he painted one hundred skulls live in a gallery space over a single week — every work selling within two hours.
