Steve Tandy was born in Bury, North Manchester in 1973. Although he briefly studied art at Bury College, he is essentially self-taught — a fact that lends his work an irreverence and freshness that formal training rarely produces. Drawing inspiration from Andy Warhol, David Hockney, Salvador Dalí and J.M.W. Turner, he has developed a style that fuses realism with surrealism and pop art to create some of the most inventive and humorous paintings in contemporary British art.

Steve Tandy's signature subject is animals — penguins, polar bears, pandas and an ark's worth of wildlife — placed with irreverent wit into iconic scenes drawn from popular culture, film and music history.
